parking spaces of the ÖBB - Secure access control

Secure access control for parking spaces of the ÖBB

Formerly the free Park & Ride areas of  the ÖBB were blocked by parking violators, and the railway customers of the ÖBB could not use these parking areas. The ÖBB found a solution to this problem after a test run with the Skidata AG who applied the innovative UHF reader UDL 500 of deister electronic. Long-term customers of the ÖBB, who obtain at least a weekend ticket, get a wireless chip on the ÖBB counter that opens the barriers to the parking area. On this chip the validity of the parking permit is stored. It is glued to the inside of the windshield, so that the barriers open for the customer automatically. Now, even on busy days, there is plenty of room for the vehicles of the railway customers. 'The ultra-high frequency sticker is working with an established technology', said board member Robert Weiskopf of the Skidata AG in Grödig. 'The technology is not only used at the Park & Ride area in Hallein, by now there are pilot projects at airports and companies.'
